The incident outside Kyiv that injured correspondent Benjamin Hall also claimed the lives of two Fox News journalists: producer Oleksandra Kuvshynova & cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, the US network and its journalists revealed on Tuesday.
Fox News disclosed only the death of Irish citizen Zakrzewski in a statement. Kuvshynova was also slain in the attack, according to Ukrainian officials and Fox News correspondents.
On Twitter, Fox News Pentagon correspondent Lucas Tomlinson penned the words “RIP Pierre and Sasha,” using a shortened version of the producer’s name and attaching a photo of the two smiling with Hall.
According to the Ukrainian website kp.ua, Zakrzewski, 55, and Kuvshynova, 24, were killed by Russian artillery fire in the north-eastern section of Gorenka.
Brent Renaud, an American filmmaker, was killed in Ukraine on Sunday, just a few miles from where the Fox journalists were ambushed.
In a statement made public on Monday, Fox News said that Hall had suffered an injury “during newsgathering outside of Kyiv, Ukraine.”
Suzanne Scott, the president and CEO of Fox News, said: “Pierre was assassinated in Horenka, Ukraine, west of Kyiv. Pierre and Benjamin Hall were in their vehicle when it was hit by an incoming fire yesterday.
In his time at Fox News, Pierre was a combat zone photographer who covered practically every worldwide story from Iraq and Afghanistan to Syria.
“As a journalist, his zeal and skill were unparalleled. Pierre, who was based in London, had been working throughout Ukraine since February. As a producer, he was able to take on any function – from photographer to engineer, and so on – in the field, and he was able to do so under incredible stress.”
Initially, Fox News did not disclose Kuvshynova’s death but later stated that she worked as a Fox News consultant.
According to the statement, “She was tremendously skilled & spent weeks working directly alongside our entire team, going round the clock to ensure the world knew what was occurring in her nation.”
Kuvshynova was hailed as “hard-working, witty, friendly, and brave” in the statement. As a journalist, she accomplished her passion of connecting people throughout the world and telling their experiences. “
‘We held off on conveying this tragic news earlier today from out respect for her family,’ the statement read.
Oleksandra Kuvshinova, a Fox News field producer, was killed in yesterday’s incident near the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. She had a great sense of humor and a love for music. She was 24 at the time. Over the last month, her work with our group has been nothing short of spectacular. “May she rest in peace.”
When Trey Yingst tweeted a picture of him and Zakrzewski, he remarked, “I don’t know what to say. Pierre was the best there was. Selfless. Brave. Passionate.
As of Tuesday, Hall, a British-born American, was still in the hospital. His limb had been amputated, according to Ukrainian officials. Fox News stated it was still investigating the incident on its staff.
This is all we have at this point,” Scott wrote in an email to his employees on Monday, omitting any references to Zakrzewski or Kuvshynova. Because things are moving so quickly, our teams on the ground are doing everything they can to obtain further information about Ben.
