Sacramento Police Arrest Man Accused of Targeting Women in Stockton Boulevard Robberies

Detectives apprehended a man suspected of targeting women in strong-arm robberies along Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento last year after a six-month investigation that included forensic evidence. The Sacramento Police Department said Friday afternoon in a news release that Joseph Coln, 19, was arrested March 4 and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of robbery and attempted robbery. The robberies took place on September 15 and 16 and were reported on both days. The victims were ladies in their 50s and 70s who were robbed in the Stockton Boulevard business district during the day and evening, according to police.

According to the Police Department, the suspects in each instance took or attempted to take the victims’ purses before fleeing the scene. There were no serious injuries. At the time, the police department enhanced patrols along the route and collaborated with local businesses and leaders to raise awareness.

According to police, patrol officers and crime scene investigators “conducted a thorough investigation” that included forensic evidence processing. Officers discovered that the suspect in each crime had a similar description. Coln was identified as the suspect after the case was taken over by detectives from the department’s East/Central Neighborhood Crimes Unit. Coln was charged with two charges of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery in the Stockton Boulevard incidents by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.

Coln was still being kept at the jail on Friday, where he was being held in lieu of $200,000 bond. In a second case filed by the District Attorney’s Office on March 4, he was being held without bail on an allegation of car theft. Anyone with information regarding the offences is requested to contact investigators at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357, according to the police department.
