Police ID passenger killed in I-75 crash Sunday

A driver and a passenger were killed early Sunday morning after they collided with another vehicle on Interstate 75 near the Mitchell Avenue off-ramp.

Authorities say a guy in his 79s was driving a 2009 Chevy van southbound on the Mitchell Avenue exit ramp from I-75 when he failed to prevent at a traffic light and struck a 2011 Honda Civic.

According to the department release, there were no fatalities in this crash in which the 57-year-old Honda Civic driver suffered severe injuries and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Officials say Nathaniel Dixon, the Honda’s front passenger, died due to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the site.

According to the release, the driver of the van was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Investigators are attempting to ascertain if the driver was impaired at the time of the incident, and officials believe excessive speed contributed.

Cincinnati Police Department’s traffic unit, at 513-352-2514, is urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
