Death Penalty Possible After Suspect Admits to Shooting Pub Owner in Louisiana

On March 3, Marl Wayne Smith was murdered in a shooting at his bar.

The same guy who reportedly shot Smith took all of the money from the ATM in the tavern.

According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, “speeds surpassing 120 miles per hour” were involved in the inquiry.

David Rester, Jr., 51, of Vidalia, Georgia, was apprehended at the end of the investigation.

On March 4, Rester Jr. robbed a bank in Waveland and then led law enforcement into Harrison County and onto Interstate 10, according to the WPSO.

In Harrison County, Mississippi, Rester, Jr. was taken into custody.

Rester, Jr.’s capture had been reported to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect acknowledged killing and stealing Marl Wayne Smith on March 3; he was taken into custody on March 4.

Evidence gathered during Rester’s arrest “connected him to the homicide in Washington Parish,” according to the WPSO.

Last month, Rester, Jr. was linked to a robbery and sexual assault in Pearl River, Mississippi.

Rester, Jr. has been arrested in Harrison, Washington, and St. Tammany Counties and is expected to stand trial soon.

The 51-year-old man will be charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery in Washington Parish.

In St. Tammany Parish, according to the WPSO, charges will be brought against the suspects.
