5 Juveniles Face Hate Crimes for Incident at Iowa Sleepover

DES MOINES (CSU) Five minors are accused of using racial slurs against another youngster at a sleepover, according to Clive police. The 12 and 13-year-olds allegedly tossed footballs and other objects at a kid while shouting racial slurs, according to the Des Moines Register.

According to Clive Police Lt. Mark Rehberg, the Polk County Attorney’s Office charged harassment and simple assault. He said the accusations were increased to hate crimes since racist insults were reportedly used.

The kids’ names were not revealed because juvenile court records remain private in Iowa. “Bullying is not acceptable,” Rehberg stated. “We want to stop it.”
