Janesville Sees Lowest Crime in Nearly 40 Years, Police Department Says (1)

According to the Janesville Police Department, crime is at its lowest level in over 40 years.

Janesville’s crime rates in 2021 were the lowest they’ve been in over 40 years, according to the police department. On Thursday, Janesville police chief David Moore announced the city’s crime statistics for the year 2021. The statistics demonstrate that not only is crime at its lowest level in over four decades, but it has also decreased by half in the previous decade.

According to the police department’s statistics, rates decreased from 4,184 crimes per 100,000 people in 2012 to 2,044 crimes per 100,000 people in 2021. While crime is reducing nationwide, Janesville’s crime looks to be declining at a quicker pace, according to Moore.

According to the statistics, total crime declined by 14%, violent crime decreased by 2%, and property crime decreased by 16% from 2020 to 2021.

“While the Janesville Police Department discloses crime data, reducing crime requires the cooperation of the whole community,” Moore said.

Moore reported one murder, ten opiate overdose fatalities, and nine fatal traffic accidents in Janesville.
