Fort Collins Police Arrest Loveland Man on Attempted Kidnapping Charge (2)

An attempted kidnapping allegation has been filed against a Loveland man by Fort Collins police.

Detectives from Fort Collins arrested a 39-year-old Loveland man on suspicion of attempted abduction after allegedly luring two adolescent females into his car.

According to a press statement from the Fort Collins Police Department, two adolescent females were strolling together at approximately 2 a.m. in a south Fort Collins area in late 2021. An unknown individual — subsequently identified as Justin Svetich by police — approached them in a black four-door vehicle with a rideshare driver sticker on the windshield at this time, they added.

According to the statement, the guy got out and attempted to persuade them to accompany him; when they refused, he claimed to be a police officer. According to the statement, when the girls demanded to see his badge, the guy indicated he didn’t have one with him and instead displayed a hidden pistol.

According to the press statement, he pretended to be worried for their safety since it was late and instructed them to get in his vehicle. One of the females, on the other hand, opened the emergency app on her phone and informed him that she was contacting the cops.

Svetich then allegedly got back into his car and drove away. Officers scoured the area but were unable to find anybody or anything that matched the description they had. After taking over the investigation, detectives identified Svetich as a suspect and arrested him.

According to arrest files from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, he was detained on Feb. 1 in the 2600 block of Fifth Street Southwest in Loveland for attempted second-degree abduction and impersonating a police officer.

Svetich was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree kidnapping, a class 4 felony, two counts of felony menacing with a real or simulated weapon, a class 5 felony, two counts of child abuse, a class 2 misdemeanour, and a violent crime with a weapon sentence enhancement, according to court records. According to documents, he is not charged with impersonation.

In the statement, Assistant Chief Tim Doran, who supervises the Criminal Investigation Division, said, “These young ladies did exactly the right thing by following to their instincts, requesting to see a badge, and finally contacting police.” “People contacting to check their identities will never be a problem for real police officers.” I appreciate the hard effort that resulted to this suspect’s identification and arrest.”

Svetich’s next court appearance is slated on March 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Detective Stuart Music at 970-416-2575 has been requested for any more information regarding this or any instances involving Svetich. Crime Stoppers of Larimer County may be reached at 970-221-6868 or at stopcriminals.org for those who desire to remain anonymous.
