New Orleans City Court Judge Indicted for Allegedly Filing False Tax Returns (1)

A judge in New Orleans has been charged with filing fake tax returns.

NEW ORLEANS (CSU) – The Department of Justice said on Friday that a New Orleans city court judge had been prosecuted for allegedly filing fake tax returns.

Judge Ernestine Anderson-Trahan is accused of conducting hundreds of marriage ceremonies between 2013 and 2016 and not disclosing the money she earned on her tax filings, according to a federal grand jury indictment.

Trahan is thought to have made between $80 and $100 for each courthouse ceremony she officiated. She is suspected, however, of charging more for weddings held after office hours, outside of the courthouse, or on Valentine’s Day.

According to the Department of Justice, Trahan did not register any of the money she received on her taxes from 2013 to 2016. She is also suspected of working as a lawyer in 2013 and 2014 before becoming a judge and neglecting to register that income.

Trahan’s next court appearance is set for January 24. She could face up to three years in prison for each of the four counts of tax fraud she faces if convicted.
