John Mayer Tests Positive For Covid-19, Dead & Company Cancels Mexico Shows (1)

Dead & Company, a Grateful Dead spinoff, has canceled weekend resort gigs in Cancun, Mexico. Shortly before departure, frontman John Mayer tested positive for Covid-19.

Initially, the band intended to continue without Mayer, but the “Playing in the Sand” gigs were canceled today. Ticketholders will be reimbursed, and information will be provided to them.

Former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann make up Dead & Company, which is augmented by Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti. Since 2015, the group has been active.

The band announced the cancellation of the concert on Instagram.

“With great regret and after careful study of every conceivable circumstance, CID Presents has decided to cancel the Playing in the Sand events in Riviera Cancun on January 7-10 and January 13-16 owing to the rising COVID-19 instances.” Dead & Company and CID Presents did all they could to restore normality and provide a terrific event with incredible music, but it became clearer with each passing day that canceling was the best decision for the audience and our staff. Please refer to the Playing in the Sand email, which will be mailed out soon, for all refund information. “See you soon, embrace your loved ones, remain safe, and be nice,” says the author.
