50 Santa Barbara County Jail Inmates Test Positive for Covid-19

COVID-19 has been detected in 50 detainees at the Santa Barbara County Jail.

According to a sheriff’s spokesperson on Tuesday, fifty Santa Barbara County Jail detainees tested positive for COVID-19 in an epidemic that has affected more than 160 individuals since it was discovered on December 9 in the institution.

According to sheriff’s spokesperson Raquel Zick, the epidemic was discovered when an inmate tested positive while bunking with dozens of other convicts in the Male Dormitory Housing section of the Main Jail facility situated at 4436 Calle Real in Santa Barbara.

According to Zick, the pandemic has infected 169 inmates and has 83 current illnesses.

Furthermore, of the 169 convicts afflicted with the coronavirus during the outbreak, 82 have recovered, and four have been freed.

According to Zick, none of the convicts who tested positive in the epidemic required hospitalization, and just 30 reported experiencing symptoms, while 138 were asymptomatic, and one inmate did not respond.

Zick stated that in responding to the Main Jail epidemic, the Sheriff’s Office collaborated with Wellpath medical contractors, County Public Health Department personnel, and the Department of Public Health.

Sheriff’s staff have given out over 630 coronavirus vaccines at the Main Jail, including 148 inmates who got up to $20 in commissary funds. The initiative was made possible by a grant from the American Rescue Plan Act.
