Sheriff Identifies 20-Year-Old Man Found Shot Dead

The sheriff has identified the 20-year-old guy who was found shot to death.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a 20-year-old male was discovered shot to death on Wilbur West Road on Sunday.

Laquavis Thomas has been recognized by authorities. His identity had been hidden at first until his relatives could be told.

Thomas’ corpse was discovered just before 6 p.m. on the road east of Pine Bluff near Bayou Bartholomew, in a desolate region dominated by agriculture, scrubby fields, and a few dwellings. People heard multiple gunfires and subsequently found the man’s body, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. After that, they contacted the authorities.

Deputies saw the guy laying in the road and discovered he had several gunshot wounds, according to Woods. Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelly pronounced Thomas deceased on the spot.

As they began their investigation into the killing, Woods said, investigators were interrogating people and obtaining search warrants.

He stated, “We are in the very early phases of this.”

“At this point, we have no leads.”

According to the sheriff, Thomas did not have a police record in Jefferson County as far as he knew.

“I’m not familiar with him,” Woods remarked.

“I’m not familiar with his surname. We’re not making a link with his background at this point because I don’t view him in our system as a juvenile or an adult.”

The corpse was sent to the state Crime Laboratory and will be autopsied by the state medical examiner.

The inquiry is still underway.
