Gasconade County School District To Close Friday After TikTok Threat Challenge

Gasconade County School District To Close Friday After TikTok Threat Challenge

There is a district in Gasoncade County that will be closed on Friday. Some of the schools across Missouri have been made aware of a trend on social media app TikTok where kids are challenging each other to make threats.

There is a challenge that has started to go around where people make bomb threats or school shootings. We are aware of this and always take threats seriously. Right now, there have not been any threats to schools in Mexico City.

The Gasconade County Sheriff’s Office said that Gasconade County R-II would close Friday because of the trend.

The Sheriff’s office will take any threat seriously. This includes students and non-students. They might face legal consequences for the threat they make. The Sheriff’s office will work with other agencies with an increased presence of law enforcement at our local schools.”

Sheriff Chris Heitman said that his office was aware of this trend and that even though there is no specific threat against local schools, extra deputies will be at local schools on Friday.

“I don’t think the school is going to be attacked tomorrow,” Heitman said: “We want to be ready. Just in case.”

Heitman said that some parents contacted him after they heard about the trend.

Heitman said, “These kids don’t realize that they will get caught eventually, and it is a crime. They could get in trouble for it.”

Heitman said that when people say something bad will happen, it usually does not happen. But police will treat it as a threat if they think it might be true.
It can be considered a criminal offense. People can get in trouble for making threats to others.

Columbia Public Schools is aware of a trend. But they haven’t seen any specific threats against the district. A school district in Jefferson City said that they do not think that there is any danger. They did not say which schools or districts are threatened, but they don’t think it is their school or district.

Noelle Gilzow, a teacher in Columbia Public Schools, said this was not the first time that something like this had happened.

“There was always a new challenge each month, all the way through the school year and even after the bathroom challenge. The latest one is to slap a teacher.” Gilzow says.

Gilzow is trying to make sure that students know this is not a joke. “This is a serious problem. It really happens. People die. This makes it seem less serious, so I think it is wrong to have this be a game.” Gilzow said.

School of the Osage sent an email to the parents and said that they are working with law enforcement. Officials in many districts have been made aware of the trend, and they sent out a message.

Last Friday, some students threatened Thomas Jefferson Middle School on social media. The students who did this are under investigation; they have been suspended and may be expelled.
