PORT HURON, Mich. (CSU) — A woman died by crashing her car into the river. She had three children in the car. They are all in critical condition now.
Police officers and firefighters were called after a car drove into the Black River, with one person jumping out before it entered the water.
Divers entered the river and took out a woman and her three young children. They were all taken to a hospital. The woman died.
A newspaper reported that her three children (ages 6, 5, and 3) were in critical condition.
Police said that two girls were taken to Ann Arbor hospital, and one boy was taken to the Detroit hospital. They are with their relatives.
Marcy Kuehn is an assistant chief of the Port Huron Police Department. She said that the crash investigation is ongoing and that an autopsy will be done on Mr. Pratto by the St. Clair County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators talked to Pratto’s boyfriend, who told them that she was having problems with the car’s brakes.
He tried to shift the car into park, but he couldn’t. So he jumped out of it before it crashed into a river. He can’t swim, so that’s why he had to jump.
