Two Men Were Arrested Just 12 Minutes After Reported Farm Burglary in County Durham (1)

Someone saw a burglary at a farm in Durham. Police got the report twelve minutes later. Two men were arrested. Durham Police received a report that two people had left a house that had been broken into. The break-in happened on November 23 at 8:46 am.

One of the men threatened their victim with a screwdriver. Then they ran away across the field. 12 minutes after 8:00 am, two people were taken to jail. 2 men, one in his 40s and the other in his 30s, were arrested for Two counts of burglary and 2 counts of theft from a car. The people were sent to jail. They will go to court on December 23 at Durham Crown Court.

The arrests happened on the same day as Operation Checkpoint. A lot of police officers came together to do this operation on Wednesday night. It was an operation to stop crimes happening in rural places. Police in Consett stopped one car that had four men and dogs in it. The police had been tracking the car on their computer until it came into our area.

The police stopped three men with links to drug and rural crime after they were reported by volunteers in Wolsingham Market Place. The driver was reported for having no license, and the vehicle was also seized by police under Op Takeaway.

Ed Turner, who led the operation, said: “Operation Checkpoint is one of the tactics we use to catch criminals who think they can target our rural communities.”

It is always good to see people coming together and talking about crime. And, it’s especially good when they do this through the Rural Watch scheme.

Rural Watch is composed of representatives from Farm Watch, Neighbourhood Watch, WhatsApp alliances, and community-spirited people. It is coordinated by the Board of Rural Trustees.
