Austin Man Charged in Robbery of a Taxi Driver

A man in Austin is accused of robbery. He took less than $100 from a taxi driver. The incident was filmed.

Quindell Lashawn Jefferson, 23, was charged with a felony. Judge Christa Daily set 10,000 dollars as the conditional bail and 150,000 dollars as the unconditional bail.

Police were called on November 2. It was 8:50 p.m. The police went to the intersection of 10th Street Northwest and West Oakland Avenue for a report about a taxi driver who had been robbed.

The police officer said that the man had picked up someone at Reed’s 4th Avenue Food and Fuel. The man was going to an apartment on West Oakland Avenue. The passenger asked the driver for a change for a $100 bill. The driver took out the money, and then the passenger tried to take it from him. They started fighting and had to stop.

A person wearing a mask took $96 in cash and a $15 check from the passenger.

Detectives spoke to the cashier at the store and also looked at what happened inside the store, like on camera. The man was identified as Jefferson.

Police found out that Jefferson was being held on an unrelated charge from Dodge County, so they issued a warrant for his arrest.

On November 29, Jefferson will be back in court.
