County On Slow Path To Economic Recovery

Unemployment is higher in Chautauqua County in September 2021 than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recently, the state released New York’s latest unemployment rates. One year ago at this time, unemployment was 6.3%. Now it is 4.7%.
In September 2019, before the pandemic, the county’s unemployment rate was 3.8%. The county’s labour force has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels either. In September 2021, the number of people employed in Chautauqua County decreased from 52,400 to 50,600. This means that there are 400 more people unemployed over two years, from September 2019 to September 2021.

People who are looking for unemployment to go back to before the pandemic might have to wait a while. For example, in some states, unemployment is very high.

In September of 2021, New York’s state Department of Labor released a report that states the number of private-sector jobs in New York increased by 14,800. Compared to figures from September 2020, there was a 0.2% difference in the state of private-sector jobs. This is also lower than the national average, which had an increase in private sector jobs by 0.3%.
