'Andy Griffith Show' Actress Betty Lynn Dead at 95

Betty Lynn, a film and television actor, has died. Thelma Lou was her character from “The Andy Griffith Show.” She was 95 years old.

Lynn died Saturday after a short illness. The Andy Griffith Museum announced this in a statement.

Lynn was on The Andy Griffith Show from 1961 until 1966. She played the part of Thelma Lou. She appeared in a made-for-TV movie called “Return to Mayberry,” and she got married to Barney Fife at the end!

Born on Aug 29, 1926, in Kansas City, Missouri, Lynn studied dance and acting as a young girl. In 1944 she started performing as part of USO Camp Shows.

Lynn traveled to Burma to perform for the servicemen during World War II. She was the only American woman who did this during that time.

She moved to New York in the 1940s. She was an actress. She acted in films, and later, on television. She worked for a long time, but people will remember her best for her role on “The Andy Griffith Show.”

In her later years, Lynn went to meet with friends from the cast and went to various Mayberry-themed events.

Actor and director Ron Howard, who played Sheriff Andy Taylor’s son, Opie, paid tribute to Lynn in a tweet Sunday. He said she “brightened every scene she was in and every shooting day she was on set.”

Actress Betty Lynn moved from Hollywood to Mount Airy in 2007 after a series of break-ins. She told The Associated Press in 2015 that she “loved” the city.

Lynn said, “I think God has blessed me. He brought me to a really nice town with wonderful people.”

Lynn had an autobiography before she died. Now the museum is saying that it will be released after Lynn dies.

Lynn has a lot of cousins. They will miss her. A memorial service for Lynn will happen in Culver City, California. Details will be released later.
