Jussie Smollett Denied Dismissal Of His Criminal Case, Will Proceed To Trial

Jussie, the actor from the TV show Empire who was in a false claim and said he was attacked and had racist and anti-gay slurs, will now face criminal charges for lying to police. A judge denied a request to discharge the case against Jussie Smollett on Friday.

The attorney for the person who was in the article with Jussie Smollett said that he has already done community service and paid a bond to drop charges. An attorney said, “A deal is a deal. That’s an ancient principle.”

A judge disagreed with Judge Linn. A different judge appointed a special prosecutor to make the decision in this case.

Linn said that the jury selection for Smollett’s trial would start on November 29th. In January 2019, Jussie Smollett told police that two masked men attacked him in Chicago. A few weeks later, they realized that he was lying and staged the attack on himself to get attention for his career.

That case was dropped by a prosecutor in Cook County. This is not a good thing because the prosecutor is controversial. The case was re-opened when a different lawyer charged Smollett with causing a disturbance. The actor has pleaded not guilty.
