Fuller Goldsmith, Food Network Champion Chef, Dead At Age 17 (2)

Fuller Goldsmith, who was a chef on the Food Network’s “Chopped Junior” competition, died Tuesday after nearly a lifetime battle with leukemia. He was 17 years old.

“He was ready to go and got weary,” says his father, Scott Goldsmith of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where Fuller stayed. Goldsmith, who was on “Top Chef Junior,” was characterized by the show’s production company as “an incredible chef and the most powerful kid we’ve ever met.”

“We all cherished Fullers so much! And we’ll never forget his infectious grin, laugh, and butter tricks,” “Top Chef Junior” host Vanessa Lachey wrote in the comments.

In 2017, Goldsmith won “Chopped Junior,” in which young cooks create strange dishes out of mismatched ingredients. According to News, many of his dishes emphasized his area of expertise: Southern cuisine. He donated his $10,000 prize to the Division of Hematology and Pediatric Oncology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

When he was three years old, Goldsmith was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

“When I was sick, cooking was the only thing that got me up,” he told Tuscaloosa magazine in 2017. “If I was just laying down doing nothing, my feet and legs would hurt, but when I was moving around in the kitchen, I wouldn’t be hurting as much.”

Goldsmith went to the Tuscaloosa Academy and worked as a cook at the Southern Ale House in Tuscaloosa, where he “helped prep, serve, and develop recipes.” Our community’s hearts are shattered… “Fuller lived for the purpose of creating delectable meals.”

Goldsmith told his fans on Instagram in February that he has leukemia.
