Person of Interest in Florida College Student Miya Marcano's Disappearance Found Dead, Authorities Say

Authorities in Florida continue to look for a missing 19-year-old college student after finding a person of interest dead Monday in what authorities said was an apparent suicide.

Miya Marcano, a 19-year-old student at Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, went missing Friday around 5 p.m., according to Orange County Sheriff’s Office. She resided and worked at Arden Villas, an apartment complex about a mile from the UCF — one of the country’s largest institutions.

On Thursday, she was at the apartment complex and left around 5 p.m. A maintenance guy used a master key fob to enter her apartment about 30 minutes before that, according to Orange County Sheriff John Mina. Armando Caballero, 27, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex, was being questioned by the Sheriff’s Department over his possible involvement in the crime. Mina added, “Miya complained that he had shown an interest in her. Miya rejected it numerous times.”

Deputies discovered that Caballero had last seen Marcano at work around 3 p.m., according to Mina. After determining that he used a master key fob to get into her apartment and was looking for him over the weekend, deputies issued an arrest warrant for him. On Monday, police discovered Caballero’s body at a second apartment complex where he also worked in Seminole County, which is north of Orlando. “It appears that he committed suicide,” said Mina.

Miya is still missing. Her absence is suspicious, and our detectives and her family believe she may have been the victim of foul play. Marcano’s aunt, Pia Scarbriel Henry, wrote a desperate and tearful appeal for Marcano to return home, addressing it directly to her niece. “I know you’re alive. I understand that you’re out there,” she added. “You miss us, and we know you’ll pull through this.”

As she continued the narrative, her aunt recounted how each member of her family is working hard and hoping for her safe return. “You are our princess,” she continued. “We have faith in God and hope.” Mina also requested that anybody who had seen Marcano or Caballero contact the Sheriff’s Office at 407-836-4357 as soon as possible.
