Chris Pratt Will Star as Voice of Mario in ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie

(CSU) In one of the showbusiness’ most unlikely casts, Chris Pratt will play the voice of Mario in an as-yet-unannounced “Super Mario Bros.” film.

On Friday, January 4th, actor Chris Pratt will voice Mario, the tubby Italian plumber who revolutionized video game history in 1980 when he released “Super Mario Bros.” Nintendo announced the news on Twitter on Thursday.

The film will include “The Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”‘s Charlie Day as Mario’s brother Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser.

There are no Italian actors in the film, which has caused heated debate and a slew of jokes on social media. It’s unknown whether the performers will employ Italian accents, but Pratt confirmed in a video posted to Instagram that he’d been “hard at work” on the character’s voice. Pratt also expressed his gratitude, adding that he had often played the arcade game as a youngster. The animated feature, revealed in 2017, will premiere in North America in December 2022.
