Chuck Grassley Leads Finkenauer by 18 Points in Hypothetical Matchup: Poll

Chuck Grassley Leads Finkenauer by 18 Points in Hypothetical Matchup Poll (1)

In a hypothetical matchup, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) beats former Representative Abby Finkenauer (D-Iowa) by 18 points, according to a Des Moines Register/ Mediacom Iowa survey released Tuesday. According to a poll of 620 likely voters, Chuck Grassley leads Finkenauer 55 to 37 percent, with another seven percent unsure about who they would vote for. A mere 1% stated that they would not participate in the election.

Chuck Grassley’s successful run for a seventh term in the senate may signal that he would be a strong candidate to keep his seat. He has obey over 40 years in the Senate and is 88 years old. Iowa’s Republican senator has not said whether or not he will seek re-election, and the state’s Democratic Party is keeping an eye on it ahead of the 2022 elections.

After a separate Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll in June revealed that 64 percent of Iowans think it’s time for personage else to hold Grassley’s seat, today’s survey is significant. That poll did not include any names, merely asking participants if they would want “someone new.” In July, former representative Tom Finkenauer announced his bid to succeed Grassley. He is perhaps the most well-known Democrat in the race thus far.

Grassley leads Finkenauer among men, voters without a college education, and evangelicals, according to the latest poll. In Iowa’s 1st congressional district, Grassley outstrips Finkenauer by a ratio of 58 percent to 35 percent, the district she previously represented.

In addition, former Crawford County supervisor Dave Muhlbauer (D) is seeking the party’s nomination. Carlin, a Republican state senator, is the only declared candidate for Senate in the race. From September 12 to 15, the Des Moines Register conducted a poll in Iowa, which surveyed 805 Iowans, including 620 likely voters, and had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points for all Iowans and 3.9 percent for likely voters.
