The individual of interest in the case of Gabby Petito has yet to be discovered, and North Port officials said there would be no “large search” on Monday at a Sarasota County preserve, as there was over the weekend.

According to a police statement, “At this time, we feel we’ve gone through all possibilities in seeking the grounds there. Law enforcement personnel are still looking for Brian Laundrie.” The FBI announced on Sunday that they found human remains that might belong to Gabby. They will find out more information Tuesday after they do an autopsy.

However, the only person who might know what happened is now missing as well. All weekend, authorities were combing the Carlton Reserve in Sarasota County. They said his family thought he had gone to Venice’s 25,000-acre park. On Friday, his parents revealed they hadn’t spoken since Tuesday and that he was missing.

Crews came back to the site on Sunday morning. But before 6 p.m., police said that they had found nothing and left. Later on Sunday, police closed off the area around the Laundrie house and asked people to move away from it. The Laundries were quiet until Friday when they submitted a missing person’s report on Brian.

On Friday, investigators spent two hours at the Laundrie home collecting items that they hoped would assist them in locating Brian and obtaining answers. On Saturday, 50 police officers from five organizations, including the North Port Police Department and the FBI, began looking for clues at the Carlton Reserve.

Brian is not missing, according to his family’s lawyer, but rather on the run. It’s “reprehensible and hypocritical,” says the attorney for the Petito family, adding that Brian’s family asked North Port police to look for him but not Gabby.

The family of the Laundries told authorities that he took a backpack with him and stated that he was going to the reservation. According to the Laundrie family’s attorney, his parents went looking for Brian on Wednesday, which is new information.

The parents claim that they discovered his automobile parked in the park, but they left it so he could drive back home. When the boy didn’t return Thursday morning, according to his parents, they went to get the car themselves. It’s unclear what was written on the note.

“These were people who had been living outside of town for a long time. He would go out here and do lengthy treks, but it might be months before he returned.” Her family reported Gabby Petito missing on September 11, after failing to contact her since August 25.

Brian’s family home in North Port was his and Gabby’s camper van.

Last week, police said there was a problem at the Laundrie household on the day before Gabby’s father reported her missing.

The Laundrie family released a statement Monday night, expressing their sadness over Gabby’s injury and her loss. They added that they were praying for her and her family. The investigators from North Port said it would be tough to imagine that anyone could hide out there for days without being noticed due to the harsh surroundings.
Laundrie, a white male with brown eyes and short brown hair, has been missing for several days. He is 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds, according to authorities. He had trimmed facial hair and was dressed in a hiking bag with a waist strap when he vanished.
