The Dodgers have been doing really well this season, and they just traded for players from the Nationals. Walkers is good because he pitches good. Julio is also playing well right now. The Dodgers have been playing well for the last two and a half months. But they are better when Kershaw is healthy.
After two months, Kershaw came back to the mound. He created it through 4 1/3 innings without giving up a run and we won 5-1. With the win, the Dodgers can clinch a spot in the playoffs. The Giants are 2 1/2 games ahead in their division. The Dodgers have 17 games left in the regular season. “It’s huge for me to be able to be a part of it,” Kershaw said of reconnection the team as they try to pursue down the Giants. “I will never bear that for granted ever, to be in a playoff race and to be a part of it. It’s hard because the Giants aren’t losing.”
Kershaw started off well, but had some problems later. Kershaw struck out Arizona’s shortstop Nick Ahmed on four pitches then Ketel Marte hit a double and Josh Rojas hit a bloop single into left field that scored one run. Kershaw pitched 20 pitches to get through the first inning. He got better as he played. In the third inning, Kershaw only needed 5 pitches to get the side out. In the fourth inning, Kershaw struck out Jake McCarthy on a 3-2 slider to keep a runner from scoring. Kershaw threw his four-seamer/slider combination most of the time. He also used his curveball more than usual, and it was effective. He threw it 12 times and got three swings and misses.
Kersh was throwing the ball where he wanted it to go. He also mixed up his pitches by throwing curveballs and sliders. Kersh had a good outing for us and we are happy he is back. Kershaw’s pitching speed was a little low. His fastball must have been at 88-90 mph, but he only averaged 89.2 mph on the pitch. His pitches were also a little slower than they usually are. But he was still good and his pitches were not as slow as they used to be before.
So efficient was Kershaw that he pitched longer than planned. He started to pitch and then stopped after 4 innings because he threw only 49 pitches. So Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts put him back on the mound and Kershaw needed one pitch toward retire D-backs pitcher Zac Gallen ending his outing.
“You can’t really do anything to simulate playing in a big league game. You can do everything the exercises you want, but it’s not the same as playing in one. I’m glad I got this first game out of the way and now I’ll have more games to play.”
It is great that Kershaw will play in the Dodgers. He is a good player and they have enough players in their team to win another World Series. Kershaw has been injured for a while because he hurt his arm. He was not sure if he would be able to play, but then he came back. The team was happy that Kershaw came back to play with them again.
