Likely Havana Syndrome Case Delays Harris’ Trip to Vietnam.

Likely Havana syndrome case delays Harris trip to Vietnam

The Vice President of the USA, Kamala Harris, went to Vietnam yesterday. There was some worry because of a health problem she had.

Harris reached in the Southeast Asian country’s capital after a three-hour delay in Singapore. The U.S. government blamed it on reports that someone in Hanoi may be ill with the Havana syndrome, which is when you get dizzy, nauseous, and have migraines and memory lapses.

An incident happened. It took attention away from other things happening. Joe Biden’s top deputy made a plan to win people’s help in Asia. But the incident occurred, so the deputy was not successful in his dream.

Beijing tried to make a surprise meeting in Vietnam. They gave the country 2 million COVID-19 vaccines.

The White House presssecretary said that this “Havana Syndrome” case was reported in Vietnam before Harris left. It wasn’t confirmed, though. A safety assessment was done before Harris went to the country to ensure it would be safe for him.

The Vice President’s bureau was made aware of a recent report of an unusual health incident in Hanoi. We think it is not safe.

Some 200 people who work for the United States government have been sickened by “Havana syndrome.”

A group of scientists found that it might be “directed energy” beams that cause this syndrome. This is a problem because it was seen at the U.S. embassy in Cuba in 2016.

There is a “big opportunity” that Russia is to blame. This could be an intentional problem. We don’t know for sure, so we are waiting to hear more information before making conclusions.

Vietnam Says It Picks No Sides

The incident came while the United States and China are in a difficult time.

As Harris’s trip to Vietnam was delayed, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held an unannounced meeting with Chinese Ambassador Xiong Bo. During that meeting, Chinh said that Vietnam does not take sides when it comes to countries.

Earlier on Tuesday, Harris had accused China of using force to make claims in the South China Sea. She said this is not right because Southeast Asia is essential to America.

The Prime Minister said that Vietnam will always be an independent, self-reliant country and part of the international community.

“Vietnam does not side with one country against another,” it said.

In the South China Sea, it is essential to settle disputes according to international law and “high-level common sense.”

The U.S. management has called competition with China “the biggest geopolitical test” of the century.

China’s ambassador met with the Vietnamese Prime Minister shortly before Harris landed. They are worried that Vietnam might become close friends with the U.S.

During the meeting, Chinh appreciated the ambassador for a vaccine donation. It was not clear what vaccine China had donated.

Vietnam successfully had the virus for most of last year, but since April, they have been dealing with many cases. The coronavirus is making people in Ho Chi Minh City sick because it has the Delta variant. There are about 98 million Vietnamese, and only 2% of them have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
